How does Glaze-Ease 601 compare to
the linseed oil putties that are common for glazing windows? |
Glaze-Ease 601 is easier to apply and
tool than linseed oil based putties. Linseed putties tend to dry out
and crack, showing signs of aging sometimes in less than one year.
Glaze-Ease 601 is a high-solid acrylic compound designed for a 40
year life expectancy. Unlike linseed oil putties, 601 can be used
with insulated glass and Low-E coatings.

How soon can I paint Glaze-Ease
601? |
601 is engineered for painting within 2
hours after application, linseed putties can take weeks to cure. Use
oil or latex paint systems, may also remain unpainted.
If I get excess on the glass,
how is it removed? |
A thin film of 601 will dry within
minutes of application. A razor knife will remove any excess quickly
and easily.
How long does it take 601 to
fully harden? |
As noted above, 601 takes only 2 hours
to cure for painting. It takes one full day for a 2 mil thickness,
when applied in average temperature and humidity. A typical
thickness will fully cure in 5 days.
Is 601 applied like linseed oil
putty? |
601 is dispensed directly out of a
standard reseal-able caulk tube. No “thumbing” or kneading required.
Tooling can be achieved with a standard putty knife or the unique
squeegee applicator
designed specifically for Glaze-Ease 601.
601 is also ideal for backbedding.
601 has a light “whipped cream”
consistency and is easily tooled to desired shape.

Any special preparation
required before applying the Glaze-Ease 601? |
The only preparation is a clean dry
surface. Please do not apply
linseed oil to the wood before installing 601. Primed or bare wood
is fine. 601 will also adhere well to Plexi-glass, metal, and
synthetic materials such as PVC.
How much coverage can I expect
from a tube of Glaze-Ease 601? |
A tube of Glaze-Ease 601 will cover
approximately 35 lineal feet in a 3/8” by 3/8” rabbet. Of course,
coverage will vary for spot repair.
Can I use Glaze-Ease 60l for
Spot Repair? |
With repair work, often the old putty is
so brittle that it is difficult to remove without breaking the
glass. With 601, remove all loose material and tool it right up to (
or even over top of ) the old brittle putty.
If the glass breaks, how do I
remove the 601? |
Because Glaze-Ease 601 never turns
brittle, it can be cut out with a knife. Unlike caulking compounds,
it will not tear the wood when removed.
Is 601 suitable for historic
restoration? |
Yes, after painting Glaze-Ease 601
retains all the look of traditional linseed oil putty without the
draw-backs found in conventional putties. Glaze-Ease protects the
wood and metal from the elements of nature including UV light and
moisture. Glaze-Ease 601 has been specified for projects with the
National Park Service, The Maryland State Capitol, and Hearst Castle
State Park, just to name a few. Glaze-Ease is ideal where product
reversibility is desired.
